Route description Passo Giau Cinque Torri

The hike to the Cinque Torri begins on Passo Giau, a 2,236 m high mountain pass cut between Cortina d'Ampezzo and Selva di Cadore, where a breathtaking view already unfolds.

Behind the restaurant of the same name, hiking trail no. 443 branches off in the direction of 5 Torri / Scoiattoli. It leads in the beginning gently up and down through the partly grass- and pine-covered, partly stone-, scree- and rock-strewn landscape at the foot of the Nuvolau, which becomes increasingly rougher and steeper.

Finally, the path climbs in steep switchbacks with wooden beams to the Crepe dei Ronde at 2,182 meters. Here, for the first time, the steep rock faces of the Cinque Torri come into our field of vision, rising amidst green mountain meadows.

At their feet is the Scoiattoli mountain hut, our first hiking destination. The popular moutain hut is known for the temptingly fragrant, creatively refined dishes served on the panoramic terrace and in the bright dining room. In view of this idyllic setting, it is hard to believe that the area around the Cinque Torri was the scene of a mountain war involving heavy losses during the first world war...

Behind the Scoiattoli moutain hut, the wide hiking trail no . 439 branches off. It climbs up to the already visible, multiple award-winning Averau mountain hut, whose menu not only makes gourmets' hearts beat faster.

From the Averau moutain hut, the wide gravel path, which initially runs under the ski chairlift, descends towards Passo Giau pass, from which path no. 452 finally branches off to the left. It leads below the rugged Nuvolau walls back to the starting point at Passo Giau.
