Malga Maraia Hike

Malga Maraia in Auronzo di Cadore is located in the middle of picturesque alpine meadows framed by the Bellunese Dolomites. A beautiful hike leads to this idyllic mountain hut at the foot of the Cadini di Misurina.

Route description Malga Maraia

The hike to Malga Maraia starts in Federavecia below Misurina. Next to the Hotel Cristallo there are some parking possibilities.

Here the hiking trail no. 1120 branches off to Malga Maraia. It winds its way through flower-filled meadows on a steep climb at the beginning, and a little later enters a mixed forest, soon dominated by beech trees, through which it climbs gently in parts and somewhat more steeply in others.

After almost 400 meters of ascent, you reach an extensive clearing where the idyllic pastures of Malga Maraia extend. With a view of the wildly rugged Marmarole, the summits of Cadore and the Cadini di Misurina towering behind, the friendly hut team conjures up tempting delicacies prepared from regional ingredients on the plates of its guests from mid-June to October (as of 2022). Combined with the picturesque view and the warm atmosphere, a stop at the Malga Maraia becomes an unforgettable experience.

For the way back from the Malga Maraia we recommend the already known way there. Alternatively, you can follow hiking trail no. 120 in the direction of Cittá di Carpi, which shortly afterwards joins an asphalt road. Continuing along this road, you will finally come down to a small car park, where the hike joins the already known path.

The ascent to the rifugio Vandelli mountain hut at the picturesque Sorapis lake is also highly recommended. The turquoise mountain lake has a unique charm that captivates thousands of hikers and photographers every year.
