Route description Busatte Tempesta

The starting point of this pleasant hike is the former fishing village of Torbole. At the southern end of the village, the narrow Via Ponalti leads to the Parco delle Busatte. At the foot of Monte Baldo, the park offers an adventure park with a high ropes course and a bike park. This is also the starting point of the panoramic path that winds its way towards Tempesta, about 120 meters above the water level of lake Garda.

Always following the signs with the inscription "Sentiero Panoramico Busatte Tempesta", the leisurely path makes its way through large boulders and the lush mediterranean vegetation. Along the way, information boards provide insight into the geology, flora and fauna of the area.

Then comes the real highlight of the hike: on three metal staircases, elaborately hewn into the almost vertical rock faces, you descend comfortably and safely over the otherwise almost insurmountable mountain slopes. On them you not only enjoy a picturesque view of lake Garda - the grids of the total of 387 steps also provide a dizzying view downwards...

After almost two hours you reach the end of the panoramic path. Now you can either continue to Tempesta and from there take the bus back to the starting point or start the way back on the way there.

Notes on Busatte Tempesta panoramic path

On the panoramic path you cross the so-called "marocche". These are the stone blocks that were eroded during the last ice age. At that time, large layers of rock detached themselves from the rock walls above, accumulating at the slope end. By the way, the abraded rock walls are called "laste".

Until the opening of the Gardesana Orientale and the Gardesana Occidentale in 1929 and 1931, the north of lake Garda, penetrated by sheer rock faces, could only be reached from the south by water. The locals, however, knew of winding mountain paths that led through the rugged terrain, some of which were of difficult access. The Sentiero Panoramico used to be such a sneaking path.

Bicycles are not allowed on the panoramic trail.
