The Fanes mountain hut (Üćia de Fanes) is one of the most popular mountain huts in the Val Badia valley and the Dolomites. The hike to this cozy mountain hut on the Fanes alp can be done from San Cassiano, from Cortina d'Ampezzo or on the hiking trail from Pederu described here.

Directions to the Fanes mountain hut (Üćia de Fanes)

The hike to the Fanes mountain hut begins at the spacious hikers' parking lot of the Pederu mountain hut in the furthest Val di Rudo valley.

Following trail number 7 in the direction of Fanes, you can either ascend to the upper valley floor on the wide, serpentine gravel path or on the trail that branches off to the right and is initially quite steep.

At the top, both paths lead in a now gentler ascent through the dreamy high valley of Valun de Fanes, framed by craggy rock faces, which probably captivates every nature lover.

At a large crossroads, the two paths merge. Now the picturesque alpine meadows of Fanes, crossed by gurgling streams, are not far away.

The famous Fanes legend tells that the blinded Queen of Fanes, deeply shaken by the fall of her kingdom, took refuge with her last retinue in the underground passages of the towering mountains, where she is still waiting for the resurrection of the once mighty Fanes kingdom. By the way, her helpers, the peaceful marmots, are said to have met on the rocky ledges of the nearby "Parliament of the Marmots".

A little later you come to a fork in the road: while the path to the right branches off to the hospitable Lavarella mountain hut, the one to the left leads straight to the Fanes mountain hut. At the foot of Col Bechei, hikers can expect not only culinary delights, but also a picturesque view of the Dolomites rising all around.

The way back from the Fanes mountain hut is the same as on the way there.

Below the Fanes hut lies the charming Little Fanes hut (Ücia Pices Fanes)
