Route description Sasso Piatto mountain hut and Sasso Piatto alpine pasture in Val Gardena

The hike to the Sasso Piatto mountain hut starts at the parking lot for hikers on Monte Pana near Santa Cristina Val Gardena.

From the car park, follow hiking trail no. 30 in the direction of Zallinger (Selva Piana), which winds partly level, partly slightly uphill through woods and meadow clearings with great views.

Finally, the hike turns into hiking trail no. 531. It goes pleasantly uphill through the picturesque alpine landscape framed by notable Dolomites, which in early summer turns into a bright sea of flowers. Among others, the anti-inflammatory arnica montana, the common bistort or the beautiful but poisonous aconite thrive here.

Shortly before the Zallinger mountain inn, the now steeper hiking trail no. 9 branches off to the Sasso Piatto mountain hut.

After a total of about three hours of steady hiking, this popular mountain hut at the foot of the Sasso Piatto invites you to a delightful stop. On the sun-warmed panoramic terrace and in the cozy guest rooms, hikers are served traditional South Tyrolean dishes refined with mediterranean lightness and homemade cakes. Combined with the breathtakingly beautiful view of the numerous mountains towering all around and the Alpe di Siusi, a stop at the Sasso Piatto mountain hut becomes an unforgettable experience.

Those who prefer a more rustic experience can also hike down on hiking trail no. 533 to the Sasso Piatto alpine pasture, five minutes away. In the lovingly run mountain hut, the menu includes traditional hut dishes as well as products from the hut's own cheese dairy.

Way back from the Sasso Piatto mountain hut

The way back from the Sasso Piatto mountain hut is the same as on the way there. A little below the Sasso Piatto mountain hut, trail no. 527 branches off on the right side of the path in the direction of the rifugio Vicenza mountain hut.

It winds gently up and down over the meadows, woods and scree slopes below the steeply rising Sassolungo group, opening up unique views.

Below the rifugio Vicenza mountain hut, hiking trail no. 525 branches off to Monte Pana. It leads down to the picturesque Cunfin meadows, below which it soon meets the already known hiking trail no. 30. Follow this path back to the starting point on Monte Pana.
