Interesting facts about S. Mary Assumption

Since the beginning of the 17th century, wealthy merchant and noble families left the scorching hot Bolzano on June 29 to spend the warm summer months in their summer residences. At that time, the traditional summer holiday lasted 72 days, whereby the working men generally only stayed for a short time and only visited their families at the weekends. The time spent in the "Frisch" was spent, among other things, with social receptions, games and long walks.

After the construction of thel Renon railroad in 1907, wealthy holidaymakers and celebrities joined the summer visitors, among them the writers Stefan Zweig and Franz Kafka or the founder of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud. In S. Maria Assunta still today, old targets of the shooting range, an octagonal pavilion built in 1777, tell of long ago events and prominent guests.
