Rifugio Genova mountain hut Val di Funes hike

When it was opened in 1898, the rifugio Genova mountain hut was one of the most modern mountain huts in the Dolomites. Today the popular rifugio Genova mountain hut is hiked to especially from Val Badia Valley, passo delle Erbe pass and Funes valley. This itinerary starts in Zannes in Funes valley.

Route description rifugio Genova mountain hut

The starting point of this hike, which is rich in views, is the Zannes car park at the head of the Val di Funes valley.

From the car park follow the wide hiking trail no. 32 in the direction of the rifugio Genova mountain hut, which first leads across the Kasserill stream and past the mountain hut of the same name. Always following the signs for the rifugio Genova mountain hut, the wide path soon turns into a narrow path that winds its way across meadows and pastures to the mountain hut at 2,300 m above sea level.

Before enjoying the refreshments, it is worth making a detour to the Col di Poma / Zendleser Kofel (2,420 m), which is rich in views and can be reached from here in about 20 minutes on hiking trail no. 7.

Way back from the rifugio Genova mountain hut

On the way back from the rifugio Genova mountain hut you take trail no. 35 to the cosy malga Gampen mountain hut, which already comes into view during the descent.

At the inviting mountain hut you first keep the wide hiking trail no. 35. From here, trail no. 6 branches off and leads you back to Zannes.

The malga Gampen mountai hut is a popular destination also in winter. When the Funel valley mountain huts are covered with a thick layer of snow, the way back is often made by toboggan.
