Lago di Landro lake hike

Hike around the lago di Landro lake in the Val di Landro valley at the foot of Monte Piana

Lago di Landro lake in the val di Landro valley is the third largest natural lake in Alta Pusteria after lago di Braies lake and Dobbiaco lake. A beautiful hike leads around this shimmering turquoise gem in the Tre Cime di Lavaredo nature park.

Route description around lago di Landro lake

Between Dobbiaco and Carbonin near Cortina d'Ampezzo lies the idyllic lago di Landro lake, on the eastern shore of which there are several parking possibilities.

From the car park, an initially wide path leads down over a small bridge to the shallow beach on the north shore, where there are usually a few people milling about. While some enjoy sunbathing or even dare to jump into the cool water, the others enjoy the picturesque view of the Cristallo group reflected in the clear waters.

From the pebble beach of the northern shore, several winding paths lead through the partly dense shore vegetation to the wide hiking path no. 6B. This path leads almost flat through the sparse woods and opens up ever new perspectives on the shimmering lago di Landro lake.

Finally, a clearing opens up where a small hiking trail branches off to the right. Now you can either stay on trail no. 6B and hike on to nearby Carbonin or shorten the hike on this small forest trail. From both, a wide bike and walking path leads back to lago di Landro lake, where you can end the hike at the Dürrensee restaurant.

The Landro lake is also the starting point of several hikes. For example, you can climb up to Monte Piana or hike down to the nearby viewpoint of the Three Peaks or to the Three Peaks mountain hut. In the nearby climbing area lago di Landro lake, meanwhile, climbing enthusiasts get their money's worth. Last but not least, the mountain bike route Dobbiaco-Cortina also passes by lago di Landro lake.

Remarks Lago di Landro lake

The lago di Landro lake is fed by the Rienza river, which rises in the nearby Valle della Rienza valley, and by the Popena river. Since both have their source in the nearby high mountains, their water flow fluctuates during the year and thus also the water level and the extent of the comparatively quite shallow lago di Landro lake.
