Lagazuoi lake and rifugio Scotoni mountain hut hike

This varied hike to the Lagazuoi lake offers three special features: the enchanting landscape of the Dolomites of the Val Badia valley, the sensual stop at the rifugio Scotoni mountain hut and the picturesque Lagazuoi lake surrounded by high rock walls.

The hike to Lagazuoi lake starts at the spacious car park at Punt de Sciaré just before the ascent to passo Valparola.

Here you follow the gently ascending hiking trail no. 11, which joins trail no. 20 near the Capanna Alpina mountain hut restaurant.

At the beginning it is almost plane, but a little later it winds its way up steeply over the slopes covered with larches and flowers towards the rifugio Scotoni mountain hut.

After a total of about an hour you reach the cozy mountain hut Scotoni, framed by the mighty rock walls of the cima del Lago peak, the Fanes peaks and the Scotoni peak. In the midst of a green alpine meadow, at 2,040 m above sea level, it invites you to enjoy a stop. The contemplative wooden chapel near it commemorates those soldiers who lost their lives in the first world war.

Keeping to marker no. 20, the increasingly narrow path from the rifugio Scotoni moutain hut winds through a rather steep gorge, on whose stony slopes delicate dolomite flowers such as alpine poppy or blue-green saxifrage thrive.

Finally, hiking trail no . 20B branches off to the left and leads to the picturesque Lagazuoi lake, surrounded by mountain pines, rocks and boulders, at the foot of the Scotoni peak.

The way back from Lagazuoi lake is the same as the way there.

You can also start the hike to Lagazuoi lake at the car park at the Capanna Alpina restaurant. This saves you about 30 minutes.
